Let's face it, the gays are fab at throwing parties, but getting married is not your any-evening cocktail hour tossed together at the last minute using your always well stocked bar and a few munchies pulled out of the pantry.  A wedding will, most likely, be unlike any event you've ever hosted.  And if you've hosted a wedding before, you're either straight or Karen Walker.

The sheer amount of coordination is daunting.  You'll have multiple locations (ceremony and reception), many vendors, judgmental family and friends, and not to mention you and your partner's own personal happiness and sanity to juggle in there.

It is essential that you plan your wedding so that you and your partner get what YOU want.  Lot's of people equate getting what you want with paying for what you want.  In some families the parents pay, in others the couple pays, but ultimately it's YOUR wedding and you should get out of the day what you want.  How do you ensure you get what you want?  Not by paying but through PLANNING!

Have you ever been to an event - not necessarily another wedding - where everything seemed to "work"?  Now have you ever been at an event where nothing seemed to work right?  Don't you want to try to minimize what didn't work, maximize what does, and remember it all fondly?  That's why you need to plan!

Planning helps you organize your thoughts, your venues, your vendors, and ultimately your experience.  Most likely you'll want your wedding to represent yourself and your partner.  Most couples who are getting married see themselves not as a discombobulated mess but rather a harmonization of two separate and distinct people.  Shouldn't one of the most special days of your life reflect that?
